The Key to the Oval Office

Citizens decide elections to high office based on the performance and promises made by candidates. Cosmic forces have their own way of deciding such matters. This article analyzes the 2008 presidential election from an astrological point of view, taking into account the effects of the planets on the contestants and their compatibility, present transits, and aspects, and their ties with the U.S. chart.
The natal chart of the United States is based on the data of July 4, 1776, time 16:47:00, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, latitude 39Þ57’N, longitude 75Þ9’W. It has Scorpio ascendant; Moon in Aquarius; Mars, Venus, Jupiter, and Sun in Gemini; Mercury and Rahu (ascending lunar node, where the Moon crosses the ecliptic) in Cancer; Saturn in Virgo; and Kethu (descending lunar node) in Capricorn.
The Vedic astrological system is well known for its accuracy in predicting human destinies. This ancient Hindu system is very precise and unique. Predictions are based on major periods, known as Maha Dasa, and subperiods of each Dasa or division.
When a child is born, the degree of the Moon in a particular House indicates the constellation of that person, and this particular Constellation Lord influences the planet period. Vedic astrology considers many planetary combinations formed in benefic places (Raja Yogas). No other system has this source of perfection. They provide an excellent means of accuracy in casting and reading the charts. By a careful study of the changing patterns formed by the permutation and combination of the members of the Solar and Lunar family, historical changes can be divined.
I include Pluto, Uranus, and Neptune in these charts, although these three planets are not involved when casting the birth chart under the Vedic system, which dates back some 4,000 years, many years before the discovery of these three planets.
John McCain’s horoscope is set for 9:00 a.m., August 29, 1936, in the Panama Canal Zone. When John McCain began his life, the royal planet Sun’s major period was in operation. His natal planet Sun being posited in Leo made him very courageous and powerful. The ascendant Lord Moon is placed in Capricorn under the rule of the star Uthiradam, which belongs to the Sun group. Hence the Sun is more powerful than his ascendant Lord Moon.
McCain’s Mercury, posited in Virgo, is exalted and also ruled by the star Uthiram. This gives him great mental clarity. Benevolent Jupiter stationed in Scorpio is a great benefic for this horoscope.
But the war planet Mars, situated in McCain’s Ascendant Cancer, goes into debilitation, indicating weakness. Though McCain was a warrior, Mars was the cause of his imprisonment in the war zone with heavy injuries.
Saturn in the 8th house is very strong in his own house, Aquarius, which opposes Venus and the Sun, indicating health problems, poor negotiations, and bad reputations caused by women.
The Moon in Capricorn is emotionally tough and conservative. The nodes Ruhu and Kethu are posited in the 6th and 12th houses respectively, causing difficulties during their running period.
The transit of Uranus near his 8th house brings an unexpected health crisis. However, from March 3, 2008, onward, the major period for Mercury has started. In McCain’s horoscope, Mercury is elevated in his own house, which will bring him great power and change in his life.
Barack Obama’s Vedic chart has been worked out based on his birth-time data of 7:24 p.m. on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Obama’s Ascendant is Virgo, and the ruling Ascendant Lord Mercury is posited in Cancer with the royal planet Sun, which is his 11th house, causing a powerful Raja Yoga. His Moon sign is placed in Taurus in the 9th house and the Moon is exalted there in the Constellation Karthigai, giving a very powerful aspect.
The Karmic planet Saturn in Capricorn denotes leadership ability and a very hard worker who wants to heal the country.
Venus is in the 10th house. This natal position causes Obama some unpopularity with both conservatives and liberals.
The major planets Jupiter and Saturn are neutrally placed in Capricorn where the mighty Jupiter is debilitated (weak). The Saturn-Sun opposition is not too good for politics, again another weak point.
Barack Obama’s Mars conjunct Rahu (the ascending lunar node) in the 12th house is opposed by transiting Uranus. This kind of cosmic planetary event indicates a mortal threat to his safety from secret enemies. According to the cosmic timetable, however, the good stars overrule the malefic effects.
